Formerly Flathead J Boats, Sail Montana began selling sailboats in the early 1970s on Flathead Lake, Montana.
Officially a dealer for J Boats in 1977, the business focused on one design racing, selling J24s and North Sails. In 1999, Pete Sauer, a native Montanan and lifelong sailor, acquired the business and expanded the product line to include LaserPerformance (builder of the Sunfish and Laser), Quantum Sails and Triad Sailboat Trailers. Sail Montana serves sailors in Montana, Idaho, Washington, Alberta and British Columbia. In addition to selling sailboats, Sail Montana offers a wide variety of services to the sailing community, including regatta sponsorship, mobile rigging, sailing instruction, race coaching and clinics, land and water delivery, and charters on our yachts. RIGGINGSail Montana offers mobile sailboat service including running and standing rigging, hardware and electronics. We stock brand names such as Harken, Lewmar, Ronstan, Forespar, and New England Ropes in our rigging trailer. We can come to your boat, wherever it may be, at your home, at a marina or on the water. INSTRUCTIONSail Montana offers clinics and on-the-water instruction, on your boat or ours, for novice and intermediate sailors who desire to improve boat handling skills and gain confidence to expand their sailing horizons. Racing clinics are scheduled at various locations. Topics include Introduction to Sailboat Racing, Racing Tactics and Racing Trim. One on One Coaching is also available. The Sail Montana staff has diverse racing experience including the US Sailing Mens National Championship (Mallory Cup), third overall, 2002; Whidbey Island Race Week, first in class multiple years; every level of J24 competition, from club to World Championships; Newport to Ensenada, Mexico, first in class 2003; Puget Sound Sailing Championships, first in J105 class, 2004; and Banderas Bay Regatta (Mexico) first in class multiple years. Our J24 Bound 4 Glory (B4G) is a perennial leader in regional regattas such as Montana Cup, Spud Cup and various Puget Sound events.
